PlugSuit & Afloat contingency: Completely unable to use the Mac while active.

Although no cases of this have been reported, PlugSuit could prevent all applications from starting under certain situations. This might make the Mac completely unusable. PlugSuit includes a failsafe to fix this problem.

A similar but unrelated problem with PlugSuit is known to crash many applications when occurring. This is different from the problem reported here because the system is still accessible and certain applications, like the Finder and System Preferences, do not crash. Removing PlugSuit from a system where no application can start.

To remove PlugSuit from a malfunctioning system, you must restart your Mac in Safe Mode. PlugSuit is always disabled while in Safe Mode. Apple documents Safe Mode in its own knowledge base: More information about Safe Mode.

To restart your Mac in Safe Mode if you don't have Windows installed:

To restart your Mac in Safe Mode if you have Windows installed through Boot Camp:

Even if the Mac usually logs in automatically, in Safe Mode you might be required to enter your username or password anyway. If you have more than one user account, make sure you log in with the one you installed PlugSuit into.

Once the Mac is restarted, you can remove PlugSuit by doing the following:

You might need to log out and log back in for uninstalling to complete.

Once you have removed PlugSuit, it's recommended that you restart your Mac normally by selecting  > Restart… from the menu. More information about Safe Mode.
