Mover 3.0 Beta 1 Release Notes.
This document describes the new features available to users testing the new Mover 3.0 beta 1 release. A list of known issues is also included.
Mover 3.0 is a complete rewrite of Mover that brings improved stability and speed and some important new features:
Video transfer support: iPhone 3GS adds a video camera to the iPhone, allowing users to produce video clips and store them in the Photos app. Mover can now add video clips shot in this way between the iPhone 3GS and any other model of iPhone or iPod touch. Received video clips are saved in the Photos app of these devices and can be resent to others, synchronized back to a computer for downloading or watched straight from within Mover.
Carbon Fiber Engine: Mover 3.0 includes a rewritten transfer engine called Carbon Fiber, which dramatically increases transfer speed over Wi-Fi, is more reliable in the face of transfers not arriving properly, and also allows little touches like reporting progress on the current download. Mover 3 also includes an updated version of the previous Mover engine, allowing it to receive and send to previous versions without worry.
Better Bluetooth: Using the standard Apple facilities for connection, Bluetooth is now much faster in finding other nearby devices, much more reliable in sending and receiving thanks to the new Carbon Fiber engine, and can turn on Bluetooth on the fly if it was turned off.
Updates & News: Mover will now warn the user when an update is available or when other products add Mover-related features right from the app itself. (Don't worry: you will be asked before this feature is turned on.)
VoiceOver support: Mover has been overhauled to offer iPhone 3GS users preliminary VoiceOver support, allowing near- or non-sighted users to enjoy most features with ease.
More minor features: by popular request, Mover now checks whether a received contact is already in your address book and allows you to review and merge it. Also, slide behavior on the table is now much improved (for example, they don't get stuck outside the table until transfer ends anymore), and the UI has been rethought and tweaked wherever appropriate.
For details on the new features, you can see the High speed transfers in Mover 3 and Accessibility in Mover 3 articles.
Limitations and known issues.
Video transfer requires that both the receiving and sending device use Mover 3.0 or later.
Deep changes in the way Bluetooth is handled require that both devices have Mover 3.0 installed. Mover 3.0 devices won't show up when Bluetooth is on in previous versions of Mover and vice versa.
The backdrop of the Settings & More and Licenses & Copyrights sections of the about pane will change in a future beta.
An Apple bug may cause the "Touch to update" text in the News & Updates item (in 'i' > Settings & More) to become white-on-white; it will appear as though the item only says "News & Updates". You can still touch it to check for updates, and receiving an update will return the text to the correct color again.
Beta 1 is not localized.
