Afloat: Can't use or find Afloat commands in an application.

Afloat's compatibility with applications is good, but does not cover certain kinds of applications. It might happen that due to this or other problems, Afloat commands are not available in certain applications.

Just installed Afloat?

If you just installed Afloat, currently running applications will not have had the chance to be modified to support it. Afloat (and PlugSuit) only modify applications to add commands as those applications are opened. Try quitting and reopening them to see if Afloat becomes available.

Carbon applications are incompatible with Afloat.

Carbon applications are incompatible with Afloat and will never display the additional commands under their Window menu. In particular, the following widespread or system applications are Carbon applications incompatible with Afloat:

DVD Player and iTunes provide on their own some of the features of Afloat, such as window floating. See their Help for details.

64-bit applications are incompatible with Afloat.

Just like Carbon applications, 64-bit Cocoa applications are incompatible with Afloat. However, you may be able to load Afloat in these applications by running them in 32-bit mode.

The following system applications are 64-bit applications incompatible with Afloat:

Most other applications are 32-bit Cocoa applications, which should be compatible with Afloat. System applications that are 32-bit Cocoa and thus compatible are, for example, Safari and iChat.

You could be able to run a 64-bit Universal application in 32-bit mode to allow it to load Afloat. To run an application in 32-bit mode, do the following:

Future versions of Afloat and PlugSuit could be able to load in 64-bit applications.

X11 applications are incompatible with Afloat.

All X11 applications are incompatible with Afloat. There are no plans to add support for these applications to Afloat.
